I wanted to take a moment to share some encouragement with everyone who reads this. Sometimes we can carry a great amount of discouragement and disappointment because we have shared a word with someone or shared about salvation and we don’t see it taking root. It seems like we keep sowing seeds but we don’t see the harvest. This can be very frustrating especially when we care so much for the people with whom we are sharing.
Often times we are given the chance to share when someone is facing a struggle or even a loss and we want so desperately to see those seeds sprout to help see the situation improve. Let’s face it, life has some crazy hard times and we can take some really big knocks and it’s hard to watch people struggle. I have seen a lot of these circumstances when someone I care about continues making choices that lead them farther from the love I know Jesus has for them. It is heartbreaking and can sometimes create doubt or despair.
When this happens over and over we can begin to find ourselves hesitant to continue to step out and share. I know there have been times where I have questioned if I was “doing it right” or if I heard the Holy Spirit correctly as He encouraged me to share something. All of this can create a hesitation to plant those seeds.
But God! Those are my two favorite words in the Bible. Let me testify to you today that those two words make all the difference. Today I spoke with someone I have known for twenty years. Over those years I have tried to plant seeds and for twenty years I have never seen any evidence of growth. But God! In the past year (unseen by me) God breathed life and brought the increase! Today I sat and listened as this person shared with me about His coming to faith in Jesus and how God has put a fire in His heart! I sat and listened how seeds planted not only changed his life but his wife’s and two other dear people that we knew as well.
You see it wasn’t about me, the seeds I planted or watered, it was about the power of God to take them and increase them in ways I had nothing to do with. Not only did He reach my friend but through that journey He reached three others that I know and that is not counting all the lives those four people have touched! Who knows what that increase is!
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.”
I Corinthians 3:6-7 NKJV
When we plant seeds, or water them we can trust that when the moment is right God Will breathe life into them and He will bring the increase! Do not lose faith or become discouraged! Never hesitate to plant a seed because you are entrusting it to a God who is faithful to continue the work and bring the increase! So keep praying for others, keep sharing your testimony, keep pointing people to the love of Jesus and most of all keep planting seeds knowing that an increase is coming because God is in charge of the moment when life is breathed into the situation and is faithful to change everything!
